Your questions answered

How is this jewelry made?

The bark is sealed on the front with a clear matte varnish for a natural look. Backs have a layer of silver or gold colored resin for lightweight strength and durability. Wirework and earwires are tarnish-resistant Argentium Sterling Silver or 12k Gold Filled. All metals are permanently attached through the bark and embedded in the resin backing. Chains are 18” with lobster style clasp, in Gold-filled or Sterling Silver. Ear posts are surgical steel with titanium backs.

Where do you get the birch bark?

Patricia gathers it herself in the Maine woods. Each bit is specially selected for its brilliant color and attractive markings that make the most beautiful jewelry.

Are trees harmed in the process?

Not a bit! Living birch trees are not touched. The only bark harvested is from birch trees that have fallen due to natural causes like storm damage. This is common with birch.

Will the jewelry last?

Yes. Patricia provides easy instructions for care of your birch bark jewelry. #1 tip to keep it looking fresh: place it alone in its box when not being worn, to avoid friction with other jewelry or objects.

Is it ok if it gets wet?

Always remove your jewelry when showering or swimming! Immersion is likely to harm the protective finishes. However, if you are briefly caught in the rain, just pat dry immediately and all will be well!

How do I clean it?

For occasional cleaning, wipe metal components gently with a polishing cloth to restore shine. Do NOT use polishing cloth on the bark or the edging.
